Big Ditch Brewing Company began formal brewing operations in 2014 followed by the opening of its tap room in 2015. The design and construction of the brewery and tap room completely transformed the former Verizon fleet maintenance building into the “hub” of the Electric District of downtown. The name “Big Ditch” pays homage to the Erie Canal, an engineering wonder that changed Buffalo forever and marked the beginning of more than 100 years of prosperity for the City. The design of the space is meant to emphasize the history of its namesake through hand painted murals, historical photography, custom light fixtures by local artisans and its overall industrial feel.
